Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 17 Dark Old Rust Dark iron-oxide. Recommended for reproducing old rust on mufflers, towing lugs, chains, steel cables, suspension of wheeled vehicles trains and carts, springs, tracks, road-wheels, OVM. Old rust is always darker than fresh. This is base pigment colour for rust modulation. Apply it first and follow up with lighter shades to produce authentic appearance. Works best on black or black metallic acrylic bases! Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 18 Medium Old Rust Lighter shade of dark rust sitting between old and fresh rust. Adds variation and allows for easier blending of colours. If you want to portray gradual oxidation process or simply model rust in its intermediate state this colour will do the trick. Applied alone works best on black or black metallic acrylic bases! Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 19 Fresh Rust Light rust colour, excellent for creating fresh rust effects on new mufflers, tracks, hull, OVM. Can be combined with darker base shades for added variation. This colour is quite universal and always produces good results. Applied alone works bast on steel acrylic bases (mufflers) or any hull base coats to imitate rusty dents and scratches in the paint. Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 20 Light Fresh Rust High contrast fresh rust colour, if basic fresh rust colour seems too dark to you this will do the trick. The brightest of iron oxides, use with caution! Only to be applied by dry-brushing! Excellent for highlighting while making fresh rust effects on new mufflers, tracks, hull, OVM. Applied alone works bast on steel acrylic bases (mufflers) or any hull base coats to imitate rusty dents and scratches in the paint. Can be combined with darker shades for added variation. Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 21 Track Brown Classic Commonly used shade of track brown. Can be simply dusted into the tracks or applied as a wash with the help of Alkyd or ENML 2.0 binders. Use high amount of this colour to mimic a vehicle that has been out of use for several weeks to months, smaller amounts for vehicles in active service in harsh weather conditions. Meant to be used on dark steel acrylic base. Rule of thumb for modelling tracks: The more frequently used a vehicle, the more bare steel and less rust you will see on them. Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 22 Track Brown XT Dark New alternative for tracks formulated by VMS. This is much darker shade of brown that best represents tracks in active service. Use it as a wash or glaze with Alkyd or ENML 2.0 binders and wipe the excess out so that most of the colour remains in recesses only. The result will be very authentic tracks with dark accent without the excess rust. Meant to be used on dark steel acrylic base. Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 23 Primer Red This is straight primer red used for anti-corrosive coatings throughout the century. Recommended for trains, ships, containers and most of all for German late war vehicles that often didn't received proper factory coatings (due to supply shortages). Great for "paper panzers" such as E series of tanks (Entwicklungsfahrzeuge). Many German vehicles that received new road wheels had those just primed. It is a great idea to paint a random road wheel on your Panzer IV or Panther with this colour. Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 24 Soot Black Intensive black. Can be both mixed and used straight from the jar. While mixing use small amounts as it can easily dominate other colours! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 25 Black Steel Metallic Metallic black that can be easily used to replicate the appearance of bare metal. Allows for both accentuating edges or covering entire surfaces. Don't age as metal cotes – no expiration date and can be reversed if used along with ENML 2.0 binders. Great for machine guns, engine blocks, chains, burnishing track links, OVM, jet exhausts. Superb for accentuating frequently used hull parts such as handles, hatches by drybrushing. Very efficient - use with moderation! Please click the jar image to see this pigment in action! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 26 White This is the white with maximum adhesive and covering capabilities. Can be mixed but will dominate other colours even if used sparingly. Best used alone for fading effects and other tasks which require good adhesion and maximum white colour strength. Very efficient - use with caution! Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 27 Concrete Grey Light grey is used to tone down and lighten any intensive colour. Resulting colour is less flashy and will blend with your model base coat better. Great for mixing your own light earth and dust variants, faded and washed colours. If you find colours mixed with whites too flashy and intensive this will do the trick! Used alone represents concrete very well. Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 28 Smoke Grey This is standard light grey shade dedicated for mixing. Adding it to any colour allows you to produce a toned down, dull variant of it. Recommended techniques: dusting, capillary action, weathering liquid/paste Combine with: Alkyd, ENML 2.0 or Acrylic binders Available volumes: 45 ml jar No. 29 Pure Pigment Texture Mix this powder with basic pigments to create textured versions.Create effects of heavy rust, caked up mud and such, heavy spatter etc. Works with any pigment brand. (matt finish) Mix your pigment with either Alkyd or ENML 2.0 binders "Matt FX". Apply resulting weathering liquid with a brush as if painting. Evaporate the solvent using hair drier and that's that! One dry you can also apply raw pigment on top of the layer for lighter shade - use bigger brush and rub the pigments into the layer. You can use hair drier to expedite things. How to create pigment wash? Procedure is as for even coverage. Apply a layer of pigment using either Alkyd or ENML 2.0 binders "Matt FX". Use hair dryer. Once a layer is dry use UNIVERSAL weathering carrier to liquefy it again and remove portions of pigment. Remove as much pigment as you need leaving it in places you deem appropriate. Doing it this way, using binders first, introducing carrier (thinner) later ensures your pigment job is permanent, classic washes with just the thinner are not durable. How to create dry mud accumulation? Mix your textured pigments with either Alkyd or ENML 2.0 binders "Matt FX". Apply the resulting paste and use hair drier to get rid of the solvent. Dry Alkyd based paste can be manipulated up to 9h before it permanently cures, no extra solvent is needed for manipulation! ENML 2.0 based paste cures quickly and needs solvent (VMS UNIVERSAL weathering carrier or equivalent) to be brought back to life. Introduce carrier to be able to work with a layer. Use hair drier to "freeze" it in place again - it works like real life mud! How to create wet effects? (with Acrylics: quick way) Mix your pigments with VMS acrylic binders. Apply the resulting paste (textured pigments) or liquid (zero tex pigments). Once it's dry apply a thin coat of VMS acrylic binders. Acrylics dry quickly and are permanent! If you are using them for the first time please conduct trials on a dummy model first! How to create wet effects? (with Alkyds: slowly but with more control over the process) Mix your pigments with VMS Alkyd binders "Wet FX". Apply and model the resulting paste (textured pigments) or liquid (zero tex pigments). Leave to dry for 3h. The pigment job will turn matt as the pigments absorb the binders the first time you mix and apply them. Don't worry about the matt finish it's supposed to work this way. Next step is to apply a thin layer of Alkyd binders "Wet FX" over the pigment job you just created in order to enhance the gloss. You can add an additional layer every 3h until you are happy with the finish - gloss level. You can apply "gloss action" all over or just locally for more variation. You can apply gloss action over pigment jobs made with other variants of alkyds provided they are 24h+ old. How to create wet effects? (with ENML 2.0: quickly + pigment job is reversible at any time) Mix your pigments with VMS ENML 2.0 "Wet FX" binders. Apply and model the resulting paste (textured pigments) or liquid (zero tex pigments). Use hair drier to get rid of the solvent. The pigment job will turn matt as the pigments absorb the binders the first time you mix and apply them. Don't worry about the matt finish it's supposed to work this way. Let the pigment job breathe for about 1h for a better sealed and more durable layer. Next step is to apply a thin coat of ENML 2.0 binders "Wet FX" over the pigment job you just created in order to enhance the gloss. You can add multiple layers for a "dripping wet" effect. Use hair drier between the coats for quicker results. You can apply "gloss action" all over or just locally for more variation. How to create textured partial effect? Mix textured pigments with Alkyd binders "standard" and create paste. Apply it in the wheels, over the hull, wherever you want it. Apply excessively as you will be removing some of the pigment later. Use hair drier to evaporate the solvent. Don't worry your paste will remain live for 9h. Now use brush and/or a toothpick to remove portions of the paste. When done removing gently brush over an entire pigment job with a bigger soft brush to remove some loose pigment chunks. Leave to cure for 24h. How to create point wet effects? For damp point effect with medium gloss (satin finish) please use Alkyd or ENML 2.0 "Wet FX". Simply apply the binders with a precision brush wherever you need them. Apply binders sparingly and apply heat (hair drier) right after application to maintain the contrast and prevent running. For high gloss wet effects please use VMS acrylic resin. How to create partial wet effect? Apply your pigments using ENML 2.0 or Alkyd ""Wet FX" types binders. To remove the gloss where needed use Universal weathering carrier, use damp brush to wipe excessive binders, use hair drier to check the result. If still too glossy do some more wiping, you may introduce a bit pigment along with the carrier to reduce gloss better. To create a smooth transition from gloss to matt, allow the carrier to flow freely between the both areas, soak it up with your brush (without wiping) and finally use hair drier to check out the result. You can also introduce a second coat of pure binders over "wet" areas later on for a dripping wet effect. When to use textured pigments? Whenever you want to reproduce accumulated earth and mud (paste) or make spatter and splashes with pronounced texture (liquid). This applies for both dry and wet finishes. When to use a paste when a liquid? Make pastes if you want to reproduce heavy mud accumulation - microstructures; deposits. Liquids are for thin even layers of pigments, washes and spatter. How to tell the good stuff from colourful dirt? It's simple really. Good pigments have the colours up to scale (toned down) and easily cover the surface when applied as weathering liquid (mixed with binders and spread over the model with a brush). Even coverage is the case when grain size is in order, cheap pigments and fillers alike have big grain size which causes all sorts of problems in modelling. Poor adhesion and coverage issues are the main concern. On the left VMS Spot-on EU brown earth on the right generic "sienna". Not only is the colour way off but look at the grain size and uneven coverage of "sienna' generic colour! We used the same binders and technique, gritty pigments will always lose to finer powders! One of my VMS pigments sticks better than the other Zero texture pigments stick best - have the best adhesion. Textured pigments have lower adhesion as added texturing material has bigger grain size. It is supposed to work this way. Low adhesion is a plus when you are creating thick mud deposits with Alkyd media. The technique requires you to first apply a lot of mud and then remove it for natural appearance. This would be impossible with zero texture pigments as they stick too well and can't be easily manipulated. When working with Alkyd pastes low adhesion is a plus. For techniques involving dusting and making weathering liquids please use zero texture pigments. I want to make thick deposits of cool looking mud on my tank's wheels and hull but fixing via capillary action doesn't work that well, pigments "melt down" into a pile of goo... Using capillary action to form microstructures of pigments is tricky as you need to introduce binders with a fine brush very very carefully, if you overdose the binders pigments will clump up and form an ugly soup. :) To remedy this problem VMS created textured pigments that will allow you to create great looking mud deposits with ease. Tex. pigments don't clump so readily and are a very easy to use, we made sure everyone will succeed with them! Overdosing fixative (binders) is not and issue with textured pigments. Try using VMS textured pigment variant even if you are master of capillary action, you will do the weathering much faster and easier and the result will be stunning!

Fix pigments, mix own weathering liquids, create SFX! Fast drying pigment binders! Acrylic Binders: Mix high gloss, instant results weathering pastes and glazes! Acrylics are fast curing binders that yield instant results. They have the highest solids amount and sealing capability therefore are best used for all these tasks that involve creating extensive structures with high gloss, for instance heavy wet mud deposits. Recommended for experienced modellers because once dried acrylics are irreversible unless you do a total paint stripping. VMS acrylic binders come along with a novelty - Acrylic Disperser a special agent that aids while dispersing pigments within the binders allowing you to create factory grade weathering pastes and glazes in your home! MIX WEATHERING LIQUIDS APPROPRIATE FOR ALL KINDS OF WET EFFECTS MIX TEXTURED PASTES CREATE HIGH CONTRAST WET ACCENTS Typical Acrylic binders applications, you will easily find many more uses yourself! Please check out product FAQ for tips and guidelines. Instant results! Acrylics are the fastest of binders and have top sealing properties. Contrarily to ENML 2.0 and Alkyds acrylics allow for much faster work but lack the flexibility of other binders, their SFX capability is limited. Still you will greatly appreciate acrylic binders while creating high gloss wet effects and like fast-paced work. Irreversible! Please note that once dry acrylics based pigment jobs cannot be reversed, therefore we recommend first trying them out on a dummy model or a spare to get the hang of it. Top quality product! VMS acrylics are top of the line products with high solids amount (50%+), no water is added. Further more our acrylic resins contain foam suppressing agent that ensures that no nasty air bubbles are trapped in your acrylic pigment layers while they dry. When coupled with pigments mixed with VMS Acrylic Dipserser the resulting weathering paste or liquid quality is unparalleled. Acrylic Binders capability roundup! Acrylic binder "Wet FX" type is best for all kind of heavy, textured mud effects. It dries fast and gives pigments jobs glossy or matt finish, depending on your formulation. Apart from "on vehicle" presentations we also depicted binders capabilities the same way we present our pigments - on AFV wheels. Use this as a reference point to be able to better pair your spot-on pigment with particular binder type and achieve desired result. Does not crack even if coats are very thick. Premium acrylic product - very high solids amount (>60%), not diluted. Combine with: Spot-on pigments, Acrylic disperser Finish: gloss to matt formulation dependent Open time: short Recommended techniques: weathering paste, high and low opacity glaze, point wet effects Reversibility: Not reversible, removable with Clean Slate rmvr 2.0 Available volumes: 30 ml dropper bottle Add to Cart Product FAQ How to produce even coverage effect? “Even coverage” is a starting point for many other techniques + it imitates fine dry mud very well on it's own. Give it a try to familiarise yourself with VMS binders and step up to more advanced techniques. Mix and apply weathering liquid with a brush as if painting, use hair dryer for quicker results. Once dry this layer can be dusted over for what we call maximised dusting or left alone. How do I create my own acrylic weathering liquid? (matt finish) The ratios are as follows: 2 parts zero tex. pigment, 1 part Acrylic Disperser, 1 part “finishing” acrylic resin. Mix your spot-on pigments or equivalent (low quality pigments produce bad weathering liquids which spread badly) with Acrylic Disperser first, make sure all clumps are gone. Then pour resin to the mix and that's that, your matt acrylic weathering liquid is ready. You can alter the standard ratios, for instance add more pigments for better coverage. How to create matt textured paste using acrylics? The ratios are as follows: 1-2 parts textured pigments, 1 part Acrylic Disperser, 1 part “Wet FX” acrylic resin. Mix your spot-on pigments or equivalent (low quality pigments produce bad weathering liquids which spread badly) with Acrylic Disperser first. Then pour resin to the mix and the paste is ready. Rule of thumb: Adding more pigments increases thickness and reduces gloss, adding more resin increases gloss and flow. You can experiment using your own ratios! How to create glossy textured paste using acrylics? The ratio is the opposite of the one for matt paste: 1 part textured pigments, 1 part Acrylic Disperser, 2-3 part “Wet FX” acrylic resin. My pigment job turned out matt but the idea was wet finish! To increase gloss of an already applied matt finish pigment job simply apply a thin coat of raw “finishing” acrylic resin over it. I want to thicken my paste but I don't want to add more pigments so as to retain gloss. You can thicken the paste using VMS SMART MUD XL activator auxiliary. How to create point wet (wet accent) effects? Simply apply the “finishing” binder type with a precision brush wherever you need them. Apply thin coats, and spread the resin thin, to keep the original detail! What are low and high opacity wet glazes and how to create them? Wet glazes are glossy fluids with low to moderate pigment percentage. Contrarily to gloss paints glazes offer a certain amount of transparency so as to show underlying coats. This means more authentic and better looking results. To prepare a low opacity glaze with mix some pigments with Acrylic Disperser first. Then introduce a tiny amount of them (about 5%) to “finishing” acrylic resin and a glaze is ready, remember to apply thin coats! To create a high opacity glaze mix a bit more dispersed pigment (10-15% depending ho much opacity is your goal – more pigment equals higher coverage) with Acrylic binders “Wet FX” type and spread a thin layer over the target part. While making glazes always use minimal pigment amounts to retain gloss! If you overdose pigments and glazes turn matt you can always apply a thin coat of pure “finishing” binders over to increase gloss. What do you mean by maximising dusting results and how do I do that? Dusting is the basic way of working with pigments. You simply rub pigments with the brush wherever you want it to appear. It involves no binders. It often happens that you want the dusted pigments to have higher opacity and better coverage but their capabilities are limited as there are no binders involved. For instance you want to model a vehicle that has been rolling in the deserts. You dust some pigment over the wheels and hull but the base coat is still showing too much, the coverage is poor, raw pigment is not enough. To remedy that you can apply a layer of pigments using “even coverage” technique. Next do the dusting over this pigment coat - you will be amazed by how good and homogeneous the coverage is. Such pigment job will have maximum opacity and vibrancy. We refer to it as "even coverage + dusting on top" - check out the capability round-up. My weathering liquid is not deep matt when it dries, it's glistening here and there. This rarely happens but when it does simply add more pigments to the mix – the gloss will disappear. How much Disperser should I add to my formulations? Add just the amount to wet the entire pigment portion. Ratio of 1:1 is fine, you can even go lower with the disperser, just as long the pigments are wetted. Pigments shouldn't be overflowed with disperser! The pigment slurry you create with the Disperser can be then introduced to the resin, the amount you add depending on your goal. For instance glazes need just a bit of slurry to so that they retain transparency. Pastes can use more so as to have proper colour strength and covering capability. How will I know if the Acrylic Disperser pigment slurry is ready? The better you mix the pigments with the Disperser the better the final result. When the clumps are gone and the pigment has consistency of ready-made acrylic paint you are good to go and can add resin to the mix. With disperser it takes around 1 minute to prepare the pigments. What's the best way to clean my brushes after working with Acrylics? For regular clean up - between the jobs, regular tap water will suffice. Just have it ready in a spare jar, rinse the brushes and wipe clean using a paper towel or a cloth. For proper deep cleaning please use VMS Airbrush Cleaners Pro Acrylic type (label with green Acryl icon) which have maximum potency and will keep your brushes in top condition by freeing them of pigments and binders that accumulate at the base of the bristle. Brushes that are not deep cleaned regularly deteriorate faster overtime. BACK

Have you ever lost or have to re-glue some PE parts during painting or weathering or maybe just by accident why manipulating your model? If so this glue is for you! Flexible bond created with Flexy 5k withstands much more punishment than classic brittle CA. This essentially means less accidentally lost parts and more productive and enjoyable work as there is much less need to reglue more vulnerable parts such as antennas, clamps, clasps, wing nuts and the like. 1.25x longer manipulation time and looper friendly! Extended open time of our photo etch glue (125% the standard CA) allows for good positioning of PE parts. You will also be able to glue tricky parts (both PS and metal) that produce tension. Glueing metal to metal works fine as well and this thin glue is looper friendly. Dispensed glue is "live" for over 30 minutes! Not aggressive towards PS Flexy is less aggressive and more easily removed when necessary it doesn't "eat plastic" as classic CAs. therefore it is more easily removed when needed. Most of the time simple scrubbing followed by some sanding will do and de bonders will do even better job! VMS Flexy Thin PRODUCT SUMMARY This is a thinner version of widely acclaimed Flexy 5K glue, thanks to its formulation this glue can be easily used via capillary action. Glue is also more looper friendly than thicker types. As the original Flexy 5K glue forms flexible bond that withstands much more punishment than classic brittle CA. This essentially means less accidentally lost parts and more productive and enjoyable work as there is much less need to reglue vulnerable parts. Extended open time (125% the standard CA) allows for good positioning of the parts. You also will be able to glue tricky parts (both PS and metal) that produce tension. Flexy is less aggressive and more easily removed when necessary it doesn't "eat plastic" as classic CAs. Recommended techniques: apply with wire, "looper" tool Combine with: polystyrene and PE Available volumes: 20 gr dropper bottle Add to Cart See Flexy 5K PE in action! Flexy 5k PE Thin FAQ What's the best technique for precise application of the glue? Dispense a portion of photo-etch glue on a piece of styrene, glass or a metal sheet, never on cardboard as it will absorb your glue. Have a 10 cm long piece of straight brass or steel wire ready, its Ø 0.5-1 mm. The wire will act as your renewable glue applicator. Dip the tip of a brass or steel wire in the blob and then touch it to a PE part or the model itself. Bring the parts together. That's that! Now cut the tip of your applicator wire with your trusty modelling knife or better side cutters to start anew with a clean tip. Small parts can be held with tweezers and dipped in the blob without resorting to the wire. I have dispensed a portion of the glue as per instruction, how long till it becomes useless? A blob of glue is good about 45 minutes after it was dispensed. It gets thicker overtime. For best results and to conserve your glue dispense smaller blobs to always have a small amount of fresh glue at your disposal. I have misaligned my PE part and want to reposition it! Slide the tip of your hobby knife between the parts to separate them. Once the parts come apart scrub the remaining glue in the same manner, try sliding the tip between the glue remains and the part from the side, the glue will give in. PS may need some sanding after the procedure. You can also use VMS Debonder. I want to create a stronger metal to metal joint! To make a metal to metal joint stronger simply sand the more demanding parts such as tank skirts (schurzen) barrels etc. By doing so you will achieve the following: remove the patina, remove possible dip coatings some PE manufacturers apply over the frets, give the glue better adhesion thanks to the altered surface. Use 600 - 1000 grade paper and sand only the spots that will accept the glue. Joints created this way are up to 50% stronger than smooth, not sanded metal which can be problematic if unprepared. When you sand your brass fret you will see the change in colour, it's a sign of a well prepared surface. Please note: even apparently pristine frets are covered with some patina, it's natural for the brass to form a layer of it over time. If you can't see it it doesn't mean it's not there same goes for dip coatings. There are problems with the joints I've created! Fingerprints and any other residue don't help your cementing! Make sure you degrease surfaces and sand the more difficult metal parts if necessary to remove brass patina and/or dip coatings. Degreasing can be conducted with simple dish washing fluid for plastic parts. Metal can be degreased with dish washing fluid but you can also use more aggressive chemicals such as acetone which evaporates very quickly and requires no drying. We advise you degrease metal parts with VMS Styrene Cement (standard type) which is a solvent blend and degreases better than basic chemicals (pure acetone). What's the shelf life of the glue? Old formula (oval bottle, round bottle without pin in cap): Opened bottle can last 12-16 months and more (if stored in the fridge, opaque box). Unopened bottle will be good for 16-24 months and more, provided it's stored in temperature below 10 °C or lower (fridge, opaque box). Glue can be refrigerated but can't be frozen. Shelf life very much depends on usage, that is how often you open and use the glue so the figures given will vary. Storage in temperatures higher than 15 °C and sunlight will decrease the shelf life. New formula (round bottle with pin in cap): Opened bottle can last 12-24 months and more (if stored in the fridge, opaque box). Unopened bottle will be good for 24-36 months and more, provided it's stored in temperature below 10 °C or lower (fridge, opaque box). Glue can be refrigerated but can't be frozen. Shelf life very much depends on usage, that is how often you open and use the glue so the figures given will vary. Storage in temperatures higher than 15 °C and sunlight will decrease the shelf life. My glue bottle contents seem low? Yes, that's no mistake, all bottles are filled at around 1/2 of their capacity. The amount of glue will last an average modeller a 1.5-2 years. After that time it's a advised to acquire a new bottle due to the glue ageing. Bottle contents is 20 gr. BACK

Airbrush Thinners 2.0 Acrylic FAQ Manufacturer recommends their own thinner for best results, won't 3rd party thinner like this cause problems? Not really. Manufacturers simply want to ensure that their paints produce best results possible. Who can blame them? The warning you can see on your paint bottle is more of a precaution as people often experiment when it comes to paint thinning. Experiments may cause many issues with coat quality or painting experience - the warning makes sense here. VMS Thinners were extensively tested therefore experimentation is not a case. The warning doesn't apply to specialist, broad spectrum, properly tested thinners - you may go ahead and use VMS thinners with specified brands. Broad spectrum thinners that can work with just any acrylic paint? Sure they can, it is all about the right composition. Our acrylic thinner formula contains 2 functional groups - ether and alcohol to make sure it can work great with any water-based acrylics out there. Solvent-based acrylics? Aren't all acrylics supposed to be water-based? Most of acrylics are water-based which makes them healthier and non flammable. Still some acrylic resin based paints like Gunze® C series for instance employ volatile solvents instead of water. These are called solvent-based acrylics and are incompatible with water-based thinners. Do I need special equipment to formulate? Not really, simple measuring cups will do the trick, all you need to be able to do is mix the concentrated products in appropriate ratios. To prepare the thinner using concentrate you will need to take 2 parts of concentrate and 3 parts of distilled water and mix it. You don't even need to know how much liquid (in millilitres) there is in a cup all that matters is the ratios, if the ratios are OK so is the end product. IMPORTANT: Parts are measured by volume not weight. FORMULATING AN EXACT AMOUNT: Divide the target volume by 5, the result is your part size. For instance let's say you want to prepare 200 ml of thinner. We divide 200 by 5 which is 40. One part is in this case 40 ml. You will therefore need 80 ml of concentrate (2 parts, 40 ml each) and 120 ml of water (3 parts, 40 ml each). These are chemicals, won't I get burned or start a fire? Our concentrates are based on non flammable chemicals which are not corrosive. They might however irritate your eyes or skin if you are not careful but this is the case with any cleaner or thinner out there. To be safe, simply avoid contact with skin and eyes while you are formulating your products. If you get some of the concentrate on your skin or in your eyes simply rinse it with plenty of water and that's that. Do I always need distilled water to formulate? Always use distilled water while formulating acrylic thinners so that the paint retains is quality. Tap water is fine for formulating acrylic cleaning products, using distilled water for cleaners is a waste. :) I don't know about all this formulation, what if do something wrong? You can't, products come with clear formulation guidelines, if you can read model plans (way more complicated) you can formulate. ;) BACK
